James Bond, Secret Agent

João Neves

The first-ever James Bond film was released in 1962. Bond is a fictional character created by British novelist Ian Fleming in 1953. Known in his films as the agent «007», James is a secret agent that works for MI6. In total there were twenty-seven productions, most of them, made by Eon Productions. The first film was called «Dr. No», and, in the film, Bond is sent to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of a fellow agent. Eventually, his investigation leads him to the underground base of «Dr. No», who is planning a space launch from Cape Canaveral with a radio beam weapon. Despite the low budget, «Dr. No» was a financial success. It received a mixed critical reaction, but overall, the film ended up winning a reputation all over the world. Also, the film launched a genre of "secret agent" films that flourished in the 1960s. In conclusion, «007» is an example of an American film that spread its fame worldwide and created a global idea of what an «agent secret» should look like. This ended up happening in other films as well, as the cinematography was used by the Americans to expand their culture worldwide.
