The importance of Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929, in Atalanta, Georgia, and is the second children of Martin Luther King Sr., and Alberta Williams King, his father was a pastor and his mother was a former school teacher. He grew up in the city's Sweet Auburn neighborhood, which was back then home to many African Americans. As he grew up he became a social activist and a Baptist minister who fought for equal rights for the African American community. But really, how important was he in the fight against the discrimination the African Americans suffered?

The answer: a lot. He became a symbol of the movement and his death only brought more awareness to the cause. His famous speech ”I have a dream” is still very present in today's society being consistently remembered as a mark of change in American society and mentality.

In his honor, there is a holiday with his own name and many streets and another kind of structure named after him. His legacy still lives until today and we hope as Humans that one day his dream does become true.
